The MEXT Scholarship (Monbukagakusho) is the golden ticket. It covers full tuition, a monthly stipend (approx. 145,000 JPY), and round-trip airfare.

Two Main Tracks

1. Embassy Recommendation:
   • Process: Apply through the Japanese Embassy in your country.
   • Timeline: Applications open in April/May. First screening in June/July. Arrival in April/October of the following year.
   • Pros: You can choose almost any university.
2. University Recommendation:
   • Process: Apply directly to a Japanese university.
   • Timeline: Varies, but usually Oct-Jan.
   • Pros: Less competition than Embassy track.
   • Cons: You are tied to that specific university.

The Exams (Embassy Track)

You must pass written exams in English and Math (and Japanese if you have it).

• Tip: Download past exam papers from the "Study in Japan" website. They reuse similar patterns every year.

The Interview

• Goal: Convince them you will be a bridge between Japan and your country.
• Key Question: "How will your research benefit Japan?"

Eligibility

• Undergraduate: 17-25 years old.
• Research (Grad): Under 35 years old.
