The New e-Visa System (Tourist Only)
Indian nationals residing in India can now apply for a short-term tourist e-Visa online. This is a game-changer. You apply via the Japan e-Visa website, and if approved, you receive a digital "Visa Issuance Notice" on your phone. Note: This is ONLY for tourism. Visiting friends/family still requires a physical sticker visa.
Financial Proof: How much is enough?
This is the #1 reason for rejection. You should show a closing balance of at least ₹1.5 - 2 Lakhs per person. Do not just deposit a lump sum yesterday; immigration looks for stable transaction history. If you are sponsored by parents/spouse, submit a "Letter of Guarantee" and their financial docs.
VFS Global Appointments
Almost all Indian applications go through VFS Global. Walk-ins are rarely accepted anymore. You must book a slot online. Centers are located in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. Premium lounge services are available for faster submission but do not guarantee faster approval.
