The EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students) is the SAT of Japan.

What is it?

It tests your academic ability. Most National Universities require it.

The Subjects

  1. Japanese as a Foreign Language: Reading, Listening, Writing. (0-400 points).
  2. Science: Physics, Chemistry, or Biology (Choose 2). (0-200 points).
  3. Japan and the World: Liberal Arts / Social Studies. (0-200 points).
  4. Mathematics: Course 1 (Liberal Arts) or Course 2 (Science/Harder). (0-200 points).

Language

You can take the Science and Math tests in English or Japanese. However, the "Japanese as a Foreign Language" section is obviously in Japanese.

When is it?

Twice a year: June and November.

Strategy

  • Score Goal: For top universities, you need 300+ in Japanese and high scores in Math/Science.
